Our Oral Health Education Course
- Course Fee: £ 500 + Exam fee
- Where: Winchester (Online virtual classes)
- Duration: 8 months (Intake in Jan and July each year)
If you’re a GDC-registered dental nurse and want to expand your dentistry knowledge, this course is perfect for you.
The course aims to educate learners on a number of different topics related to oral health, including conditions that can occur in the oral cavity and how to prevent them. We also place a lot of focus on oral health communication, helping you become more confident in offering adequate advice and recommendations to patients.
The course takes place in Winchester, with classes held online every first Saturday of the month from 2:00 pm.
The key topics covered in this Oral Health Education Course are as follows:
- Oral cavity diseases – tooth decay, gum disease, spotting serious issues such as mouth cancer
- Understanding the needs of different oral health target groups – e.g. school children, pregnant women, the elderly, special needs individuals
- Understanding how to prevent different oral diseases.
- Delivering oral health messages effectively to patients.
In order to enrol in this course, you will need to:
- Be a qualified dental nurse registered with the General Dental Council
- Have the support of your employing dentist to act as supervisor and validate the workplace activities for the Record of Experience.
- Be registered with an approved training provider.
This is a 90-minute written examination composed of two sections:
- Part A – 45 multiple choice questions (MCQ)
- Part B – 30 extended matching questions (EMQ)
Examinations are held twice a year in March and September, fully online.
